How a Kia VIN is structured

Characters 1 to 3 are the World Manufacturer Identifier, KNA or KND for Kia built in South Korea. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle itself and vary by model and spec, character 9 is a check digit, character 10 encodes the model year, character 11 the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the vehicle's serial number in production.
