VIN decoder
Paste any 17-character VIN and see the manufacturer, country of origin, model year, assembly plant character and serial number, decoded entirely client-side. Nothing is sent to a server.
What gets decoded
- Characters 1 to 3 (WMI): manufacturer and country, from our own curated lookup table
- Character 9: check digit, validated against the ISO 3779 / NHTSA weighted algorithm
- Character 10: model year
- Character 11: assembly plant code (shown as-is; plant codes are manufacturer-specific)
- Characters 12 to 17: the vehicle's serial number in production
