Buy It Now on Copart: when it beats bidding

Some Copart UK lots offer a fixed Buy It Now price before the auction opens. When taking it beats waiting for the live sale, and when it is a trap.

What Buy It Now actually is

Certain Copart UK lots carry a Buy It Now price, letting you buy immediately at a fixed figure instead of waiting for the scheduled auction. It is first come, first served: once someone claims it, or once the lot moves into its normal auction window, the option is gone.

When it beats bidding

Buy It Now earns its keep when speed matters more than shaving the last few pounds off the price, for example a part you need urgently for a job already booked in, or a model you know sells fast and do not want to risk losing to a stronger bidder on sale day. It also removes all the emotional risk of a live auction entirely, since there is nothing to bid against.

When it is a trap

A Buy It Now price is set by the seller, not discovered by competing bidders, so it sometimes sits above what the same lot would have sold for at a normal auction, especially if the seller is testing what the market will pay. Never take a Buy It Now price on faith. Run it through the Analyzer exactly as you would a live lot, repair cost, fees, VAT and resale value, and only take it if the number still works at that price.

It does not skip due diligence

A fixed price does not mean a shortcut on reading the lot properly. Read the damage codes, category, run-and-drive status and photos with the same care you would for any lot you are about to bid on. The only thing Buy It Now changes is how the price is set, not how carefully you should check what you are buying.

The simple rule

Use Buy It Now when your Analyzer number already clears the fixed price and speed or certainty is worth something to you. Skip it and wait for the auction when the fixed price sits above your max bid, since a live sale might still land you the same car for less.
